On a recent episode of his podcast, “Grilling JR,” Jim Ross discussed a wide range of topics. During it, the AEW announcer talked about the Goldust vs. Ultimate Warrior feud and more. Here are the highlights:

On Goldust vs. Ultimate Warrior feud: “Well, it was a marquee-type booking. You know, it was two guys that we wanted people to pay attention to. And of course, it was booked to get the Warrior over, and Goldust suffered through that presentation and did a good job. So, I didn’t have a problem with that booking. You know why it’s there. It’s there to hopefully, through the course of the contest and the presentation, that you get your star — now both of them were both stars, I get that. But Warrior was just coming back in, and we wanted to make an impression.”

On Vince’s high expectations for Warrior in 1996: “We had great expectations that magic can be reproduced, reverting back to the old days, or the heyday of the Warrior. But you know, there could have been things done in the ring, an interview segment, or just admit that he’s hurt and that he can’t be cleared, whatever. There’s a million ways to get around that. That’s a non-issue to me. But they still tried to have the match. You know, the old ‘show must go on.’ And sometimes that’s not the right decision. In this case, it wasn’t the right decision. Because I don’t know if we did either guy any good by how that match was presented.”
