The Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has expressed grief over the passing of the Sa’in Katsina, Alhaji Ahmadu Na Funtua.

Alhaji Funtua, a revered traditional title holder and a pillar of Katsina’s cultural heritage, died leaving behind a legacy of service, wisdom, and cultural stewardship that has significantly shaped Katsina state.

This was contained in a statement by Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Katsina State.

Born on May 25, 1929, in Unguwar ‘Yantaba, Katsina, Alhaji Funtua lived a life rich in experiences and contributions to society. His journey took him beyond the borders of Nigeria, living in Ghana and Niger Republic in his early years, where he forged lasting friendships, including a close relationship with the former Ghanaian president, Kwame Nkrumah.

In 1973, in recognition of his exemplary character and contributions to the emirate, he was turbaned as Sa’in Katsina by the late Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Usman Nagogo. This marked the beginning of five decades of dedicated service to the Katsina Emirate and its people.

Alhaji Funtua was a man of many talents and passions. He founded the NASARA CLUB, a football team that contributed to the sporting landscape of Katsina. His linguistic prowess was remarkable, with the ability to speak eight languages fluently, reflecting his cosmopolitan outlook and his role as a bridge between cultures.

Governor Radda said, “The passing of Alhaji Ahmadu Na Funtua is an irreparable loss not just to his family, but to the entire Katsina State. His life exemplified the values of unity, cultural pride, and service that we hold dear. His wisdom and counsel will be sorely missed in the affairs of our state.”

The Governor added, “On behalf of the Government and people of Katsina State, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the Katsina Emirate Council, and all who were touched by his remarkable life. We pray to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdausi.”

Governor Radda calls on all citizens of Katsina State to pray fervently for the repose of the soul of the departed Sa’in Katsina. He urges all and sundry to reflect on the exemplary life led by Alhaji Ahmadu Na Funtua and to strive to emulate his dedication to community and cultural preservation.

May Allah grant him eternal rest and give his family the strength to bear this great loss.
