On Friday, June 21, 2024, the Rotary of Ikeja handed over a newly constructed borehole to residents of the Oremeji community in the Oshodi area of Lagos State.

The facility was given to inhabitants of the area to alleviate the suffering of accessing portable water for their household needs.

Rotary International comprises members imbibed with the spirit of humanitarianism who freely give their talent, treasure and time to the needy in society.

This project has alleviated the pains of the masses by the President of the District who attracted the project to the residents having seen what his residents go through in trying to buy water from shylock water sellers.

In his opening speech, the President of the Club, Mr Emeka Ibe, said that the gesture is in line with the dictum of Rotary International to partner with the government to give succour to the needy in society.

He warned that it is a voluntary donation therefore not for commercial purposes and everybody is entitled to fetch water from the borehole at no cost or hurdle.

The community appointed board of trustees called the Water Corps Board to oversee the smooth running of the project and see to its management and maintenance to benefit all concerned to reflect the desires of the Rotary Club of Ikeja.

The chairman of the board of trustees, the Water Corps Board, Mr Olawale Ogunsiji, read his welcome address and assured the Rotary Club of Ikeja that the project would be taken care of with his management team and that the club would not be disappointed in any way.

The general secretary of the Adeyemi/Arowojobe Community Development Association (AACDA) who represented the chairman appreciated the club members for the wonderful gesture.

He pleaded with the club to carry out more need assessments as to with milk of human kindness and benevolence to do more for the community.

Mr Ibe remarked that they are lucky to have the club’s incoming President as part of the delegation as he is sure that the man would even do more for them when he is seated on the saddle.

Elder George Okoye, the task force chairman of the community and also the designated Secretary of the Water Corps Board, gave a vote of thanks to the club on behalf of the community emphasizing once more that Mr Ibe’s presence in their community has been a blessing, providing a basket full of thanks to Rotary Club of Ikeja, District 9110 in particular for their kind gesture.
