The Santos FC women’s soccer team was defeated 2-1 by Taubaté on Saturday morning (6), in a match of the eighth round of the Campeonato Paulista. The duel took place at the Urbano Caldeira Stadium, in Vila Belmiro and the Santos goal was scored by Ana Carla.
Now, all women’s football competitions will be suspended for the Paris Olympic Games. The Sereias da Vila’s next match will be on August 14, in an away match against Ferroviária, at Arena Fonte Luminosa, in Araraquara (SP), for the ninth round of the Paulistão.
The match started with a lot of studying between the teams. In the first few minutes, there were no goal chances. During the technical break, coach Glaucio Carvalho put the team forward and, soon after, Peixe started to pose more danger to the attack.
In the 22nd minute, Ketlen received a high pass at the edge of the area, on the left. She controlled the ball with her chest and finished with force. The ball ended up going too high and went over the crossbar.
In the 35th minute, Maria Alves made a disconcerting dribble past her marker and invaded the area from the right side. With a cross to the middle, she found Sole Jaimes’ head. The number 9 deflected the ball towards the goal, but was stopped by a safe save from Yolanda.
Five minutes later, Larissa Vasconcelos controlled the ball in the attacking midfield and, even from a distance, hit it with great force. Once again, the ball went too high and ended up going over the goal.
At 44, Maria Alves arrived at speed on the right wing and hit a cross. The ball almost surprised the opposing goalkeeper and ended up hitting the outside of the net.
In the last minute of regulation time, the Mermaids stole the ball from the opposing defense and passed it to Ketlen, in the middle. The number 7 controlled the ball and, with the ball in the air, hit it towards the left corner. The shot was stopped by a safe save from Yolanda, who caught the ball.
And in the last minute of the four added minutes, Taubaté took the lead with a goal from Isabela. After a corner kick from the right, Camila Martins headed the ball away. Focused on the rebound, the number 16 shot precisely into the left corner, leaving Kelly Chiavaro with no chance of saving it.
Just one minute into the second half, Suzane Pires arrived in the attacking half and shot with great force. Yolanda jumped high and stretched to deflect the ball for a corner.
After the kick, the ball reached Camila Martins, who headed the ball towards the right corner and was blocked by her opponent on the goal line. On the rebound, Ketlen tried to finish the ball into the net, but kicked it wide, sending the ball just inches from the left post.
In the 12th minute, Cida received the ball on the left side of the attacking field and, from far away, saw the goalkeeper poorly positioned and risked a direct shot. Once again, the well-placed shot went close to the goal post, over the goal line.
Two minutes later, Larissa Vasconcelos passed to Ketlen on the right wing of the attack. With a cross into the middle of the area, she sent the ball perfectly to Suzane Pires’ head. The number 8 deflected it towards the goal, but sent it into the hands of Yolanda.
In the 15th minute, Ketlen lifted the ball into the box, looking for Maria Alves. Maria was unable to control it and the defense tried to clear it, but it went straight to Sole Jaimes. Face to face with the goalkeeper, Sole finished as best she could, but it went wide of the goal.
At 24, the visiting team scored their second goal with a shot very similar to the first. This time, it was Larisse who struck a well-placed shot from the edge of the area and hit the net from the left corner.
Four minutes later, Dani Silva took a free kick from the left side of the attack and crossed towards Camila Martins’ head. The defender rose high to finish, but was stopped by another save from Yolanda.
At 33, Paola crossed from the right and the ball reached Erikinha, in the middle of the area. The midfielder set it up for Dani Silva to shoot from the left of the area. The cross went past the goal and was cleared by the defense for a corner.
Dani crossed the ball accurately to Sole Jaimes’ head. The Argentine beat her opponents in the air, but headed it into the hands of goalkeeper Yolanda.
At 39, Ketlen lifted the ball into the area and the Sereias da Vila tried to finish three times. In the first, Carol Baiana was stopped by Yolanda’s defense. Laura Valverde also tried and was blocked by the opponent. The ball ended up at Sole’s feet who, under pressure from the defense, pushed it into the goalkeeper’s hands.
In the 42nd minute, Peixe reduced the deficit with a goal by Ana Carla. Ketlen arrived on the left wing and crossed to the middle. The ball was cleared to the edge of the area and Ana Carla arrived with a shot that was placed in the left corner of the net, giving goalkeeper Yolanda, who was performing well, no chance to save it.
Determined to tie the score, Peixe launched an attack and Ana Carla arrived on the right wing to cross into the area. The ball found Ketlen’s head, who deflected it over the goal.
Next, the Santos striker received the ball on the left wing and cut inside, looking for space to finish. The low shot was deflected by one of the opponents and ended up in the goalkeeper’s hands.
