Luke Bryan has admitted he's unsure about his future on American Idol. The 47-year-old singer confessed that the situation is "interesting" as he and fellow judge Lionel Richie are being kept in the dark about who will replace Katy Perry, following her recent exit.

They also haven't been informed if they'll be returning to their roles. Speaking to Billboard magazine, he said: "It's been interesting." He added: "It's been something Disney has been really tight-lipped about with me and Lionel and Ryan [Seacrest]. We currently haven't heard what the story is on who's coming back, and if Lionel and I are coming back. I think Disney is just trying to figure out what they want to do and we're just kind of sitting back and waiting until they decide."

However, the Drink a Beer singer thinks there's a shortlist of three megastars potentially replacing Katy. He revealed: "I think Pink has been in the talks, Miley Cyrus has been in the talks, Meghan Trainor has been in the talks." Bryan believes that replacing the I Kissed a Girl singer will be challenging.

He stated: "Katy was really perfect for that job, and I think they're just working real hard to find somebody that can really come in and do the job that Katy did." Pink seemed to dismiss the idea of taking on the judging role earlier this year. She told Entertainment Tonight: "I don't like hurting people's feelings... I like my day job."

By contrast, Meghan has openly expressed her eagerness to take on the role of a judge, revealing she has "begged" for the opportunity. Speaking on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, she confessed: "I've done every interview in the world and said that that is my dream job, and I have emailed three awesome people who work in that world who don't really have the final say ... but I have begged for this job ... it's my favourite show - I've watched it since I was a child."

Katy announced her departure from the show in February but saw her time as judge come to an end in May this year after six years with the talent show. Speaking to Jimmy Kimmel, when she was asked about her fate on the show, she said: "I love Idol so much, it's connected me with the heart of America.

"But I feel like I need to go out to feel that pulse of my own beat." She went on to add that her former co-stars "found out" that she was quitting on the night she made the bombshell statement. "I love the show so much but I want to see the world," she said before hinting that she could return one day.
