Netflix's upcoming comedy series KAOS, starring Jeff Goldblum as Zeus, has finally revealed additional details, including a fresh look at the Jurassic Park star as the Ancient Greek God. The series, created by Charlie Covell (The End of the F***king World), is coming to Netflix on August 29, 2024, with all episodes releasing on the same day. The streamer describes Goldblum's character as "an all-powerful being who’s determined to hold onto that status by any means necessary," implying that Zeus's character will be an exciting aspect of the series to watch. And not just because of the beloved actor.

Following the major announcement, Netflix also released new images of KAOS, which features a modern-day setting, as well as the cast members Janet McTeer as Hera and Nabhaan Rizwan as Dionysus, the God of Wine and Ecstasy. Meanwhile, the rest of the cast includes Killian Scott as Orpheus, Aurora Perrineau as Riddy, Misia Butler as Caneus, Leila Farzad as Ari, and Stanley Townsend as Minos.

Kaos

In contrast to what one might expect from the ancient tale of Zeus and his Olympians, KAOS is set in the modern world, where the pantheon of immortals and mortals meet to create a fascinating world. Netflix describes the series as follows:

"Zeus is at the top of the mythological food chain as the King of the Gods, a position he has enjoyed for quite some time. Then one day he discovers the unthinkable — a wrinkle on his forehead. Paranoia builds, leading the supreme deity down a dangerous and unstable path. Zeus is convinced his fall is nigh and sees omens of doom everywhere. As Zeus battles his greatest fears, the rest of his family is scheming and failing in their own ways. There’s Zeus’ plotting wife, Hera (Ozark’s Janet McTeer); his complicated brothers, Hades (Landscapers’ David Thewlis) and Poseidon (Avatar: The Way of Water’s Cliff Curtis); and his rebellious son, Dionysus (Industry’s Nabhaan Rizwan)."

KAOS Tells the Story of the Greek God Zeus in Modern Day

The series will emphasize Zeus's paranoia and his growing fixation with the prospect of losing power, which leads to numerous consequences, including Hera's secret plot to strike him down, given that their marriage was based on deception and violence. On the other hand, Dionysus is described as Zeus's favorite son who finds himself yearning for more power after years of boredom and being treated like a child. No doubt this yearning will lead to actions intended to annoy his father, but with disastrous repercussions.

Originally, Hugh Grant, the iconic British actor, was on board to play Zeus, but due to scheduling issues, Goldblum was cast instead. Fortunately, Zeus feels like a role tailor-made for Goldblum, especially given the actor's immutable on-screen charisma. Ultimately, it is up to Covell and his vision to capitalize on the actor's talents, as seen by the flamboyant roles he has played throughout his career, ranging from Seth Bundle in The Fly to The Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarök.

KAOS will debut on Netflix on August 29, 2024. You can check out a first look at the series below.
