MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The Department of Justice reported on Wednesday that a 28-year-old Windsor man was sentenced Tuesday to three-and-a-half-years in federal prison for possessing heroin and fentanyl intended for distribution and possessing a machine gun. Byron Ellison will be on supervised release for three years.

The man pleaded guilty to these charges on March 14, the DOJ reports.

In 2023, authorities say between September 9 - October 9, the man sold a heroin and fentanyl mixture to an undercover officer in multiple occasions.

On Oct. 17, 2023, the DOJ said law enforcement executed a search warrant at his home and found a loaded handgun with a “Glock switch” attached to it in a safe. In that same safe, the DOJ said officials said they also found a pistol and 13 grams of heroin and fentanyl mixture.

A “Glock switch” is an illegal after-market device that converts a Glock semi-automatic handgun into a machine gun, according to the DOJ.

Investigators also found a backpack in his room that had a loaded handgun in it.

The Dane County Narcotics Task Force is among several agencies who conducted this investigation.
