Arsenal have now had an offer accepted to sign one of the best performers at Euro 2024 this summer.

After another impressive campaign under Mikel Arteta last season – in which the Gunners almost wrestled Manchester City’s Premier League title away – the Emirates Stadium is an attractive destination for most of Europe’s top players.

Now, Arsenal are close to signing one of them after having a bid accepted…

Arsenal see Riccardo Calafiori bid accepted

A story from Tutto Mercato Web now states that Arsenal have seen a bid accepted by Bologna for Riccardo Calafiori.

The Italian news outlet believe the Gunners had an offer worth €47m (£40m) rejected by the Serie A side in recent days, but after offering €3m (£2m) more to take the overall package to €50m (£42m), Bologna are satisfied.

Tutto Mercato Web add that Arsenal have also agreed personal terms with Calafiori – who is excited by the project under Arteta.

It is also said that Arsenal beat PSG, Chelsea, Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus to the Italy international’s signature.

As aforesaid, Calafiori was one of the best performers at Euro 2024 this summer before Italy were surprisingly knocked out by Switzerland, even earning a comparison to the legendary Franco Baresi for his outstanding efforts.

For those wanting a more up to date comparison, the 22-year-old has also been likened to John Stones.

Gunners set to sign “one of the best in the world”

Some Arsenal fans may question the signing of another defender after Arteta’s side had the best defensive record in the Premier League last season – keeping 18 clean sheets while conceding just 29 goals.

However, Calafiori’s arrival should not be sniffed at by any means.

At the age of just 22, the Italian has already been described as “one of the best in the world” by Fabrizio Romano, and appears to be the ideal modern day defender, registering seven goal involvements in 30 Serie A appearances last season while also contributing heavily at the back as Bologna qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Arsenal could soon announce Calafiori.
