Man United and Milan Compete for Dutch Striker
Bologna’s transfer chief, Giovanni Sartori, has acknowledged that Joshua Zirkzee is “99.9 percent” likely to leave the club this summer. The Dutch striker has a €40 million release clause in his contract, making it nearly impossible for Bologna to retain him.
“Zirkzee has a clause, so he will 99.9 percent leave,” Sartori stated. “We’ve been thinking about his replacement for months. It won’t be easy, but we are working on it and have some names in mind.”
AC Milan and Manchester United are both vying for Zirkzee’s signature. Milan is currently the frontrunner, having agreed to personal terms with the player and willing to pay the €40 million release clause. However, the transfer has hit a snag due to the €15 million commission demanded by Zirkzee’s agent, Kia Joorabchian. Milan is negotiating to lower this fee, which has allowed Manchester United to enter the race.
In recent days, Manchester United has intensified their pursuit of Zirkzee, who has yet to play a minute for the Netherlands at Euro 2024. Zirkzee was instrumental in Bologna’s surprise qualification for next season’s Champions League, contributing 12 goals and seven assists across all competitions as Bologna finished fifth in Serie A.
Often compared to Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the 6ft 4in striker is known for his strength in holding up the ball and involving teammates in play. He excels at protecting the ball with his back to goal and has impressive technical skills, enabling him to maneuver in tight spaces.
As the transfer saga unfolds, both Milan and Manchester United remain hopeful of securing the talented striker’s services for the upcoming season.
