Kaduna Rotary Club to donate mammogram x-ray machines to ABUTH, KASUTH

Rotary Club of Kaduna is set to donate three Dimension Mammogram X-Ray machines to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) Shika (and Kaduna State University Teaching Hospital (KASUTH) to assist in early detection of breast cancer and prevent it’s rising cases in Northern Nigeria. 

The newly installed President of Rotary Club of Kaduna 2024-2025, Rotarian Portia Aji, who stated this during her maiden speech in Kaduna, said the Rotary Club will also donate ante natal and post natal kits to 50 poor pregnant women and nursing mothers in public health centers, adding that the Club will deworm school age children, donate 1,000 dictionaries to public school libraries, train 200 public school girls on how to make reusable sanitary pads and plant 1,000 trees as part of her projects for the year.     

Rotarian Portia, who took over from Rotarian Susan Bassey, said she is lucky to be the 60th president of the Rotary Club of Kaduna when the club will be 60 years old.

“All projects will be within the seven areas of focus. Our star project for the Rotary Year is our desire to make donations of 3D Mammogram X-Ray machines to A.B.U Shika, Zaria and Barau Dikko Specialist Teaching Hospital Kaduna. This is to help in the early detection of breast cancer cells to prevent the rising cases of breast cancer in Northwest Nigeria.

“We shall kick off by planting 1,000 fruit and economic trees in 2 phases. With Phase one commencing on Saturday 6th, July, 2024 at Kaduna State University (KASU). This is in partnership with the Centenary Forests Social Enterprise U.K. to match effort with the Kaduna state government’s

10 million trees planting project to curb climate change. Donation of ante-natal, post-natal and mama kits to 50 indigent pregnant women and nursing mothers in public health centers. This will take place 16th July, 2024 across select public hospitals.

“Still in July, we shall have a joint project with all Rotary clubs in Kaduna to mark World Hepatitis Day Campaign. In September, we shall be having a book drive for Public Schools tagged “Gift a book, Gift a Future”. This drive is aimed at donating 1,000 dictionaries to public school libraries across select schools. We shall be training over 200 students of government girls secondary school on how to make reusable sanitary pads. We shall be deworming school age children across schools for strengthened immunity to promote healthier and happier children.

“Rotary Club of Kaduna is 60 years and the Diamond Jubilee Celebration shall take place in November to mark our 60 Years of Doing Good. In December we shall be clothing and feeding the needy by visiting prison, IDPs and orphanage homes with food and clothing items. There would be Interfaith Peace Summit and Stakeholders’ Engagement on peace building, tolerance and rebuilding hope. Continuation of borehole project at Club adopted primary school, LEA Kakuri-Hausa Kaduna. Mental Health Day Campaign to promote physical, emotional and mental well-being,” she said.

The outcome president, Rotarian Susan Bassey, reeled out her achievements during her one year reign, while expressing appreciation to those who supported her and worked assiduously with her to make the era a success. Just as she promised her support for the incoming president.
