IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – Two middle aged men, Femi Olufade, aged 45, and Abdulateef Umaru today stood before the Ikeja High Court in Lagos, charged with alleged armed robbery and possession of a double-barrel gun.

The charges against them, brought by the Lagos State Government, encompassed conspiracy, robbery, and armed robbery.

The State’s prosecuting counsel, Uju Nwogazi, informed the court of the defendants’ alleged collaboration in planning the offenses.

Nwogazi stated that on April 13, 2021, along Owode Apapa Road in the Badagery area of Lagos State, the defendants, armed with a locally made pistol, purportedly robbed Babagida Abass of his Motorcycle bearing number plate EKY 620 UM. Additionally, the prosecutor indicated that the defendants were found in possession of a cut-to-size double-barrel shotgun along with six cartridges.

The charges leveled against Olufade and Umaru were in violation of Sections 411, 296, and 297 (a) (b) of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.

Despite the allegations, both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them. Consequently, upon their plea, the prosecutor requested an adjournment to prepare for the trial.

As a result, Justice Oyindamola Ogala remanded the defendants at the Nigerian Correctional Service and scheduled the trial to commence on February 19, 2024.
