RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas (ValleyCentral) A Rio Grande City man was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to the murder of his grandfather.

Andrew Villalon was sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of first-degree murder, the Starr County District Attorney’s Office stated.

On June 27, 2022, police received a call where the reporting party said Villalon had stabbed someone on Kennedy Street in Rio Grande City. When officers arrived, they found his grandfather Joseph Seale dead with multiple stab wounds.

Rio Grande City police said that Villalon was located a street over on Teodora Drive with a knife. He was arrested and his bond was set at $1 million.

ValleyCentral spoke with Starr County First Assistant District Attorney Abel Villarreal Jr. in May, who prosecuted the case.

“Our office maintained communication with the victim’s families, and today we were able to finalize the plea terms,” Villarreal said at the time of his plea.

Villarreal previously told ValleyCentral the motive for the killing was undetermined.
