The Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS) has conferred its Distinguished Award for Gas Revolution on the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mr. Mele Kyari.
The award was presented to the NNPC Boss by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The award ceremony, coordinated by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, took place at the State House Banquet Hall, on Saturday.
Kyari has led the NNPCL in a strategically manner that has put the national oil company at the centre of the execution of decade of gas plan of the federal government.
President Bola Tinubu had set up the Presidential CNG Initiative (PI-CNG), a secretariat to drive the implementation of CNG across Nigeria as a cleaner alternative fuel to PMS.
Since the announcement of subsidy removal over a year ago, the NNPC Ltd. has doubled its efforts to drive energy security by utilizing Nigeria’s abundant gas resources.
The company has delivered numerous gas projects that would drive CNG gas penetration across the country.
Last year, the NNPCL entered a partnership with NIPCO to set up 35 compressed natural gas (CNG) stations in Lagos and other parts of the country.
Kyari had said the partnership is “Part of the NNPCL commitment to reducing carbon footprint and providing cheaper alternative fuel to motorists.”
On May 19, 2024, the NNPCL and its partners delivered three critical gas infrastructures commissioned by the President.
The projects were, the AHL Gas Processing Plant 2 (GPP – 2) – 200mmscf/d which is an expansion to the Kwale Gas Processing Plant (GPP – 1); the AHL Gas Plant, which is being developed by AHL Limited, an incorporated Joint Venture owned by NNPC Limited and SEEPCO and the ANOH-OB3 CTMS Gas Pipeline Project.
Just last week, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd commissioned 12 Compressed Natural Gas stations to reduce transportation cost in the country following the removal of petroleum subsidy by President Bola Tinubu.
The newly built CNG stations which had six in Lagos and six in Abuja were commissioned by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) Ekperikpe Ekpo.
Under the Presidential CNG initiative, NNPC & NIPCO Gas entered into strategic partnership for expansion of CNG Stations across Nigeria. Under this partnership, 35 CNG Stations are to be constructed across Nigeria.
These CNG stations feature advanced reciprocating and hydraulic booster compressors, ensuring a dispensing pressure of 200 bar for CNG vehicles.
The CNG is supplied to stations in Abuja and Lagos via virtual transportation from Mother Stations in Ajaokuta, Kogi state, and lbafo, Ogun state. The Abuja station will soon connect to the AKK Pipeline, becoming a Mother CNG station. The stations’ power needs are met by gas-driven generators, reducing carbon emissions.
