Jeff Stelling has now expressed his shock at what Gabriel Agbonlahor told him about Arsenal No.7 Bukayo Saka.

The Hale End graduate is currently the talk of the nation after dragging England to victory over Switzerland in the UEFA Euro 2024 quarter-final on Saturday, curling a superb strike into the bottom left corner to make it 1-1 with ten minutes remaining, before also scoring his penalty in the shootout.

Now – during a discussion regarding the Arsenal No.7 on talkSPORT – Jeff Stelling has been left shocked by what Gabriel Agbonlahor revealed about Bukayo Saka

What Gabriel Agbonlahor said about Bukayo Saka

The 69-year-old was actually left stunned after hearing a statistic about the 22-year-old.

At 09:10am on talkSPORT this morning, Agbonlahor said: “He has got 11 Match of the Matches in 28 starts for England.”

Stelling could not believe that statistic about Saka, exclaiming “wow” after hearing the news.

Agbonlahor continued: “12 goals in 38 games. You look at Phil Foden. Four goals in 39 games. Saka turns up for England. He is versatile. He will play left wing-back, he will play off the right, he can play off the left. Even yesterday against Switzerland, you know, he is coming into midfield and helping, he is coming in and stopping attacks. He knows his defensive responsibilities as well. What can you say? He is England’s most important player.”

Stelling then concluded: “Yet, before the tournament and really in the early stages of the tournament as well, there was talk of maybe him not starting, but he has silenced them now.”

Talk of Saka being benched by Gareth Southgate – or even being moved to defence – was complete and utter nonsense, so we’re glad to see the Arsenal No.7 getting his flowers after a difficult start to UEFA Euro 2024.

Arsenal No.7 deserves a free role for England

In our view, Saka has proven himself worthy of having a free role for England – Southgate should allow him the freedom to roam all over the pitch.

The Ealing-born sensation has shown at Arsenal that he can whip in-swinging crosses from the right flank and cut the ball back from the left flank, while he even proved in the UEFA Europa League that he can trouble opponents from a central role.

Simply put, Saka is a brilliantly rounded footballer, and we believe more moments like his stunning strike against Switzerland would occur if Southgate didn’t use him in such a regimented position.
