IGP’s Wife Empowers Late Police Officers’ Wives In Ebonyi

President of the Nigerian Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun, has promised wives of deceased policemen and the less privileged of continuous support in creating opportunities for them to overcome challenges.

Egbetokun was speaking at an event of enlarged empowerment programme in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, which marked her maiden visit to the Ebonyi State Police Command.

The wife of the Inspector General of Police said the intervention materials are not only to provide financial assistance but the skill for self-reliance and to secure a better future for the families of late Police personnel, assuring them that they are not alone.

She noted that the vision of the empowerment programme is to ensure the heart desires of fallen heroes who left their families behind while protecting the nation are met adding that the empowerment is to enable the widows and the less privileged become self-reliant.

She assured them that the leadership of the police force will continue to ensure their wellbeing and that of their children stressing the need for them to make judicious use of the empowerment equipment distributed to them.

Some of the items distributed to the widows of police officers include grinding machines, hair-dressing machines, sewing machines and bags of rice.

The Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, CP Augustina Ogbodo who described the event as timely maintained that the empowerment was also to show the compassion, sympathy and commitment that the police hierarchy has for the widows of the fallen heroes and the less privileged.

She also encouraged the beneficiaries to ensure that they put the equipment to better use adding that with the skills acquired and the equipment, they need not depend on anyone for a better life.

Reacting, the chairperson of POWA in the state, Mrs Miriam Anyai and some of the beneficiaries of the intervention materials expressed delight, noting that the gesture will not be taken for granted.
