A teenager from Broughton has been shortlisted for a National Diversity Award.

Ava Jolliffe is one of a group of eight who is in with a chance of winning the award. The 17-year-old is deafblind and a wheelchair user and has been nominated for the Positive Role Model Award for Disability.

She will be attending the awards ceremony on the October 4, 2024 at the Liverpool Anglican cathedral with a host of inspirational speakers and celebrities. 

Ava is a talented artist and has exhibited three solo exhibitions, worked with Asda and Ocado and has also created this year’s Poundland Christmas bag for life in conjunction with the charity Whizzkidz. 

She is a Disability Power 100 rising star winner and is a dedicated disability activist and advocate. 

Ava continues to work with Deafblind UK to promote equality and inclusion for her deafblind peers.

Ava is clinically extremely vulnerable. She was told she would not live past age seven due to the rare disorder Brown-Vialetto-Van Laere syndrome.

The National Diversity Awards is an annual event which celebrates the achievements of communities, charities and role models that tackle the issues in society and gives recognition for their hard work.
