Imphal: In a major development, Manipur Police arrested five active members of the proscribed outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), including one involved in an extortion case, in two separate operations launched on Thursday. Arms and ammunition were also recovered from their possession, said an official.

According to the police, one active member of the KCP (Taibanganba faction) was arrested in Imphal West. The arrested cadre, identified as Laishram Ronen Singh (48), was involved in extorting money from shops in Paona and Thangal Bazar. The police recovered a .32 pistol along with two magazines, four live rounds of ammunition, two mobile phones, a grey side bag, a sum of Rs 2500, and a four-wheeler vehicle from him.
