It’s no news that Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, better known with the stage name Tems, has had a meteoric rise to success in recent years following her debut EP For Broken Ears that arrived in 2020 and a follow-up project, If Orange Was a Place, which came in 2021.

The Grammy award winner has released her highly anticipated single, Love Me Jeje, a fresh interpretation of the classic by singer-songwriter, Seyi Sodimu, who released the original version featuring Shaffy Bello in 1997. Tems performed the song, singing the chorus to an excited audience after announcing her upcoming album, Born In The Wild, was done and on its way.

Inspired by a beloved song of the same name and released by Nigerian singer-songwriter Seyi Sodimu in 1997, Tems first previewed the song at her debut Coachella set held last month with Sodimu himself thrilled and writing on Instagram: “This made my day.”

“The beautiful thing about music is that it transcends generations and connects us through time. Shout out to Tems and her team, and congrats on a wonderful Coachella performance,” he added, whilst sharing the video of the performance on his handle.

The word ‘Jeje’ in Yoruba parlance loosely means ‘gentle’ or ‘softly’, and in the song, Tems shares the joy of being loved over a sunny guitar groove. “If not you, then I don’t wanna know, I don’t want no story; day and night, it’s unconditional, got mе living softly; love me JeJe, love me tender,” she sings.

Recall that Tems gave a first taste of what’s to come from her album last year with the singles Me & U and Not an Angel, and she’s complementing with the latest piece of the project.

Reputed for her sensual music and dance, the well-endowed singer rose to prominence after being featured on Wizkid’s 2020 single Essence, which peaked at No.9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart following the release of the remix version with Justin Bieber.
