Supes receive initiative petition certification

maderatribune.com 2024/10/6

The Madera County Board of Supervisors received a certification from Registrar of Voters, Rebecca Martinez, for a petition circulated for a half-cent sales tax for a transportation initiative during the regular meeting held Tuesday.

Using non-identifying language of the measure initiative proposed, and with no specific measure title identified in the supervisors’ agenda packet, what was previously referred to as Measure T was repeatedly referred to only as a half-cent sales tax for transportation.

Presenting the findings of a random sampling verification, Martinez certified the results to the Board of Supervisors as mandated by Elec. Code §9114 following the random draw and verification of 500 signatures. A total of 5,872 of the required 3,725 signatures for the initiative petition were submitted to the clerk’s office on June 24, just two weeks after an intent to circulate a petition had been filed.
