The Nigeria Civil Service Union ( NCSU) says it is not happy and impressed with the activities of the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Umar Damagum, over the apparent reluctance of the party to take appropriate steps to douse tension in Rivers State and amicably resolve the political crisis rocking the State, following the rift between Governor SiminalayiFubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike.
The Rivers State Chairman of NCSU, Comrade Chukwuka Richman Osumah, who gave the indication while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt, said the PDP is not doing much to resolve the political crisis in the State, essentially because the Acting National Chairman and other chieftains of the party, have compromised their positions and are, therefore, taking sides with Wike against Governor Fubara.
According to him, if it is not so, he could not fathom the reason why it would take the party leaders a very long time to call the Minister to order.
He said it is very clear that Wike is involved in serious anti-party activities against the PDP, and wondered why the party would hesitate to take action against the Minister, when it is obvious that he identifies with the party in the day, and frolics with the All Progressives Congress ( APC) at night, saying, it is wrong for a politician to belong to two political parties.
Osumah said he is in support of those calling for the resignation of the Acting National Chairman of the PDP because, according to him, he( Damagum) is backing Wike, for whatever reason, while Governor Fubara, who is the leader of the party in Rivers State is left in the lurch.
The labour leader reiterated that there is need for the Minister and others fighting and working against the Governor to allow him concentrate on governance, going by the avowed determination of his administration to give Rivers people a new lease of life.
He called on civil servants in the State to continue to rally round the Governor by giving him their unflinching support at all times, and expressed optimism that the Governor Fubara administration would continue to work hard to meet their expectations and those of other Rivers people.
Even as workers all over the world are preparing to celebrate this year’s May Day, Osumah said expectations are high in the State that Governor Fubara would put smiles on the faces of the workers.
