WASHINGTON, DC: Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey (D) has expressed concerns about President Joe Biden's ability to secure a victory in the upcoming election.

In a statement obtained by multiple news outlets, Healey urged Biden to consider his candidacy carefully.

Healey praised Biden for his role in winning the 2020 election and noted the significance of the upcoming 2024 election, calling it "the most important election of our lifetimes."

Governor Healey's statement comes after a meeting with several Democratic governors and President Biden. 

The discussion focused on the future of the Democratic Party following Biden's underwhelming debate performance, which caused anxiety among Democrats about his capability to beat Donald Trump and to serve another term.

Healey seems to be the first Governor to share her thoughts on the issue publicly.

"The best way forward right now is a decision for the President to make. Over the coming days, I urge him to listen to the American people and carefully evaluate whether he remains our best hope to defeat Donald Trump," Healey said in the statement.

Healey's fellow Massachusetts lawmaker, Representative Seth Moulton (D-Mass), became the third House Democrat to publicly call for Biden to step down from the race.

Representatives Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) and Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz)  have also called for the president to withdraw from the race. 

Joe Biden supported by other Democratic Governors

In contrast to Healey's cautious approach, other Democratic governors expressed strong support for Biden's candidacy.

Maryland Governor Wes Moore (D) stated that those in the meeting with Biden "stand with him" and "are going to have his back," The Hill noted.

Similarly, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) reinforced her support by stating, "Biden is our nominee. He is in it to win it and I support him."

During the meeting, Biden acknowledged the concerns raised and mentioned his need to get more rest and reduce his working hours, including refraining from holding meetings or events after 8 pm, as per the New York Post report. 

The Democrats are reportedly in a panic situation following Biden's debate performance. Biden has insisted on running for re-election despite wider calls urging him to step down.

Internet reacts to Maura Healey's statement in favor of Joe Biden 

The internet response to Healey's statement about Biden's candidacy was mixed.

Some urged unity and support for Biden, highlighting the importance of backing the Democratic nominee.

One comment read, "He IS running. Just get on board for crying out loud," while another echoed with a similar suggestion, "Apparently Gov. Healy is hard of hearing as the President said he is all in. Should someone check on her?"

Others suggested the democratic process and the will of the voters be agreed upon which is Biden should step down.

"He should listen to the 90% of Democratic Primary voters who voted for him," one user commented.

Another pointed out the careful balance in Healey's statement, "Whoever wrote that statement deserves a raise. Talk about walking the line."

One user praising Biden wrote "Joe Biden doesn’t need anyone to tell him to step down. He already knows what to do. I trust his judgment to take care of us as he has been doing these last 3.5 years. He’s a patriot through and through."
