A group of NRM leaders in Wakiso’s Masulita Sub County have ganged up on ex-Luwero triangle affairs Minister Denis Sozi Galabuzi who they say is responsible for their misery and the ruling party’s declining fortune in Busiro North constituency.
Galabuzi, a former Busuro North MP who got the office after thumping Gilbert Bukenya in 2016, currently serves as the national coordinator for the government flagship program called Parish Development Model whose Secretariat is based in the Ministry of Local Government. However, even when he has that lucrative job, it seems Hon Galabuzi hasn’t given up on desiring to keep influencing NRM politics in Masulita which is one of the key Sub Counties of Wakiso district.
Led by NRM Masulita Chairman a one Muwadda, the ruling party cadres and mobilisers say that Galabuzi needs to be trimmed because he has become such a big problem for them and thereby constraining the mobilization of support for Gen YK Museveni’s political party.
Their long-standing resentment towards Galabuzi was ignited last week when security dispersed ruling party supporters who had lined nearby roads to chant for and wave at the President as he drove through their trading centers on his way to the Masulita UWESO establishment where he was coming to preside over his wife Janet Museveni’s birthday bash.
The cadres got so angry with the brutality with which security treated them and are now claiming that this was all instigated by Galabuzi. That Galabuzi wants to declare himself the alpha and omega of NRM politics in Masulita to the extent that whatever he isn’t involved in, regarding President Museveni, must fail and not happen at all. The Muwadda group members are saying they have several times tried to meet and have some audience with the President to tell him their services delivery-related grievances only to get blocked by proxies working to serve the interests of Galabuzi.
Big man Moses Mayanja, who carried the NRM flag for the 2021 regarding the Wakoso LC5 race which he lost to NUP’s Matia Lwanga Bwanika, agrees with the Muwadda group and says indeed the Sozi Galabuzi group needs to be crushed. He says it’s very demoralizing to see the contempt with which Galabuzi keeps treating other NRM cadres as if he is from the Mars and not a human being like them.
That in his (Mayanja’s) view, the intrigue being perpetrated by the Galabuzi group has had the effect of diminishing the NRM support and that of President Museveni not just in Masulita but in the whole of Busiro North whose MP Seat was in 2021 grabbed by NUP strongman Paul Nsubuga. Mayanja says that each time they organize a public function aimed at amplifying political support and mobilization for the NRM party, pro-Galabuzi security actors interfere and block the same while branding it disruptive.
What is even more frustrating among genuine NRM cadres is the fact that NUP is destined to dig even deeper in 2026 yet, being a rural constituency, Busiro North was always a stronghold for Gen Museveni and his NRM party which has been in power now for nearly 40 years.
