NIMC Seeks Collaboration With NPF-NCCC For A Safer Digital Nigeria

On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) received a working visit from Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, the Director General/CEO of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), to strengthen digital security. To better safeguard NIMC’s data and digital infrastructure, fight cybercrime, and improve national security, this tour was intended to investigate possible collaborative prospects.

CP Uche Ifeanyi Henry, the Director of NPF-NCCC and Head of INTERPOL Africa Cybercrime Units, emphasized the importance of collaboration. He stated, “Although NIMC’s protection is strong, we seek to provide an additional layer of security, which is the responsibility of the Nigeria Police Force to protect lives and properties, including our digital information infrastructure and that of the Federal Government and NIMC.”

During the visit, the Director of NPF-NCCC highlighted the Center’s core responsibilities and success stories. He showcased the Center’s state-of-the-art facilities, such as the OSINT Lab, Threat Response Lab, Network Analysis Lab, and Forensics Lab. Certified forensics experts demonstrated the tools and capabilities of the Center, underscoring its expertise in addressing cyber threats in Nigeria and Africa.

Addressing recent concerns about the security of NIMC’s database, the Director of NPF-NCCC reassured that “we swiftly conducted profiling and analysis upon hearing concerns about the security of NIMC’s database. Our forensic analysis confirmed that the database is indeed secure.”

The visit underscored the importance of stakeholder engagement in creating a more secure digital landscape. The NPF-NCCC remains committed to collaboration and information sharing to combat cybercrime and safeguard Nigeria’s digital infrastructure.

The Director NPF-NCCC appreciates the Director Deneral NIMC for the visit and calls on all Nigerians to report all cybercrime cases and other related crimes to through the E-reporting portal.He thanked the Inspector General of Police IGP Kayode Egbetokun for his resilience in the war against Cyber Criminals in Nigeria.
