Two Of Metallica’s Most Beloved Albums Find Their Way Back To The Charts

Metallica almost always appears on at least one or two of Billboard’s albums chart. The hard rock outfit has produced some of the most successful music in their genre of all time, so it’s not shocking that they regularly place their bestselling collections on at least the list that works best for them and their work. This time around, however, they fill more than one spot on one tally as two of their collections return.

On this week’s Top Hard Rock Albums chart, Metallica fills two spots. Their self-titled affair rises from No. 13 to No. 11, nearly re-entering the top 10.

At the same time, their sophomore set Ride the Lightning reappears at No. 20. That set has previously topped out at No. 3, and as of this frame, it’s now spent 52 weeks, or a full year, on the roster.

Metallica’s namesake full-length isn’t only present on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart this frame. The set also reappears on two other tallies, as consumption of the set seems to be way up from the previous frame.

In the past tracking period, Metallica–the album–moved just under 9,200 equivalent units, according to Luminate. That number is largely composed of streams from platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, but purchases also played a big role in its success. The title sold almost 2,400 copies in the past week.

All those streams and sales help Metallica’s self-titled rebound onto the Billboard 200. On that ranking, the set storms back to No. 165 after not finding space on the competitive list last time around. The same project is also back on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart at No. 44.

Looking at the songs rankings published by Billboard, Metallica also sees two popular titles charting. Current single “Screaming Suicide” declines on a pair of rock airplay tallies. Their career-defining smash “Enter Sandman” lifts on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs roster, while also reappearing on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart at No. 5.
