In less than two weeks, the French will discover the names of the 577 new deputies who will sit in the National Assembly. But how much do these elected officials earn ? Let's take stock.

After the announcement of the dissolution of the Assembly following the European elections that took place on June 9, the French will have to return to the polls to elect the 577 deputies. But a question arises: how much does an elected official who sits in the National Assembly earn per month ?

A salary in three parts

According to the National Assembly website, the remuneration of a deputy amounts to 7,637.39 euros gross per month. This amount is made up of three separate parts:

the first is the basic compensation: 5,931.95 euros; the second, residence allowance (3%): 177.96 euros ; and finally the official allowance (25% of the total): 1,527.48 euros.

Note that all three are taxable and subject to social security contributions. " The parliamentary allowance is intended to compensate for the costs inherent in the exercise of the mandate. It allows any citizen to claim to enter Parliament and guarantees elected officials the means to devote themselves, in complete independence, to the functions with which they are vested", notes the official website .

Extra envelopes

MPs also receive two other monthly envelopes: one for collaborators, the second for mandate fees. The elected official can take up to 5 collaborators in his office and has 10&581 euros to remunerate them. The second envelope, of 5,950 euros, aims to reimburse expenses which are not directly covered or reimbursed by the Assembly during the mandate, that is to say the rental of a permanent office for example.

As for the senators' salaries, it is identical.
