Top 7 Most Expensive Countries for Student Visa Fees in 2024

Many students are seeking education abroad to access better quality education, experience diverse cultures, and expand their career opportunities globally.

Student visas are typically issued based on acceptance from an educational institution and are valid for the duration of the academic program, which can range from two to four years. This makes them indispensable for students planning prolonged educational stays.

From 2019 to 2022, the number of visas issued to Nigerians soared by 415.3%, from 8,384 to 43,200, according to a Nairametrics report.

Students travelling for education abroad need to understand the costs involved in obtaining a student visa.

Here is the compiled list of the most expensive student visa fees for 2024.

The Australian government recently raised its student visa fee to $1,600, up from $710, as part of its strategy to manage high migration levels impacting the housing market. This makes it the most expensive country for student visa applications, surpassing the US and Canada.

2. United States

The US remains a favored destination, offering world-class universities and diverse cultural experiences. The F1 Student Visa costs $535, including the SEVIS I-901 Fee, which is necessary for all non-immigrant students.

5. Finland

Finland offers student visas for short-term courses (less than three months) and residence permits for longer studies, with fees for an online application set at 350 EUR ($377). Renewals depend on the course duration.
