What is Malpractice about?

The first series of Malpractice had viewers on the edge of their seats when it debuted in 2023.

It saw Niamh Algar play the role of Dr Lucinda Edwards.

She found herself in hot water when a patient in her care died.

Viewers were gripped as the frontline medic faced an investigation following the death.

It's back for a second series, with filming now underway in Belfast.

I’m thrilled to be bringing back a second series of Malpractice. This time, I’m excited to be delving into the world of Psychiatry, my medical specialty, with an incredible cast led by Tom Hughes, and fantastic crew led by Anthony Philipson. I can’t wait to get started.”

The first series was ITV1's most watched launch episode of a new drama for the whole of 2023.

Who stars in Malpractice?

Viewers were dismayed when they heard Niamh Algar wouldn't be returning for the second series of medical thriller Malpractice.

She was the main character in the first run of the show, Dr Lucinda Edwards.

Throughout it she found herself entangled in a drug ring that supplies fentanyl to drug addicts.

In the new series, Helen Behan and Jordan Kouamé will be reprising their roles as Dr Norma Callahan and Dr George Adjei from the Medical Investigation Unit.

They're brought in to investigate a new doctor accused of malpractice.

Tom Hughes will play Dr James Ford, a Psychiatric Registrar in a North Yorkshire hospital.

His personal life is a mess, and his colleagues might find him
arrogant, but he appears committed to his vulnerable patients.

So when he finds himself torn between a new mother attending a routine postnatal check-up and the sectioning of a floridly psychotic woman during a busy on-call shift, no one could predict the terrible consequences.

As George and Norma uncover a hospital seemingly at war with itself, to what lengths will James go to preserve his position?

You may recognise Tom Hughes from shows including Victoria and The English.

How to watch Malpractice?

Malpractice will be available to watch on ITV1, ITVX and STV.

Filming's only just getting underway, so there's not a date for its return yet.

However those who can't wait can catch up on the first series right now through the ITVX streaming service.

ITVX is free to use, and available on Smart TVs along with most phones and tablets that allow you to use apps for catch-up TV.
