Mohammed Umar Bago, Governor of Niger state on Tuesday, at the NYSC orientation Camp, Paiko, Niger state made some promises that he has begun to fulfill.

On the 2nd of July, at the swearing-in ceremony for Batch B Stream 1 Corp members, the governor who was present gave a spirit-lifting speech.

While speaking at the ceremony, he promised to make the state most comfortable for serving Corpers and ensure they get the needed staples to ride smoothly through their 12 months in the state.

He encouraged them and promised to deliver a trailer load of rice, and 20 Cows for their remaining days in Camp.

Continuing, he won their hearts by issuing N200,000 to every Corper who chooses to remain in the state and not redeploy with saying, “So, each of you has N200,000; I understand you’re about 1,600. So we are going to credit your account with N200,000. This is to give you comfort to stay in Niger State.

“We want to build a brand new NYSC camp. So, Niger State is putting N5 billion to build a new NYSC camp for you,” he added.

Talking about employment opportunities, he said that automatic employment will be available to all medical Corp members, and push others into the agricultural sector of the state at the completion of their programme.

A statement from Bologi Ibrahim, the Chief Press Secretary of the state on Tuesday, discloses, “While reassuring them that the state government will ensure the security and well-being of the corps members, the governor used the medium to call on them to key into his agricultural revolution in the state, adding that the state government will support anyone who is willing to engage in farming through Niger Foods Limited.”

Barely 24 hours after his address, ebullience erupted in the Camp as the trailer loads of rice and cows were delivered to Corp members.

According to a Corp Member in Camp, Peace Emipe, speaking to a BrandSpur reporter, she said, “Sir, the rumour you have heard about what the governor said is not a lie. He has delivered the rice he promised and the cows. They are in the store as I am speaking to you and we are really getting good treatment here. I’m enjoying it here and would love to finish my service in the state.”
