SC Villa’s Patrick Kakande Wins Big at UPL Awards
SC Villa’s rising star Patrick Jonah Kakande stole the show at the Uganda Premier League (UPL) season awards held at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.
Kakande, who netted 9 goals and provided 5 assists for SC Villa, clinched four major awards, including the prestigious Player of the Season.
The talented playmaker was named the Uganda Premier League Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the season, edging out competition from teammates Ronald Ssekiganda and Ronald Otti, as well as Dennis Omedi and Shaban Muhammad.
In addition to the MVP accolade, Kakande was honored as the Players’ Player of the Season, an award voted on by all UPL captains.
He also secured the Young Player of the Season award, surpassing Arafat Usama and Kenneth Kimera.
The awards are very deserving for Kakande who was instrumental as Villa won the league, ending a 20-year jinx.
Other notable winners included Vipers SC’s Yunus Ssentamu, who took home the Goal of the Season award for his stunning strike against Wakiso Giants.
Vipers SC also received the Fair Play Award for their disciplined play, accruing only 33 yellow cards and 1 red card throughout the season.
BUL FC’s Ronald Otti was named Best Defender of the Season, beating out Kenneth Ssemakula and Joseph Dhata.
KCCA FC’s Shaban Muhammad was recognized as the Top Scorer of the Season with 17 league goals.
Meanwhile, Tom Ikara from BUL FC walked away with the Golden Glove for his 15 clean sheets but was bested by Kitara FC’s Chrispus Kusiima for the Best Goalkeeper of the Season.
