The production of James Gunn’s Superman movie is currently taking place in Cleveland, Ohio, and local journalists have recently announced that the son of the late actor Christopher Reeve, Will Reeve, has been given a cameo role in the film.

It appears that Gunn is celebrating the history of Superman by bringing the former actor who played the Man of Steel’s son into the fray. Reeve had enjoyed his biggest success by playing the superhero in the first four Superman movies.

Will Reeve is the late actor’s youngest son and currently works as a journalist for ABC News and his professional experience will likely play dividends in his Gunn movie role as he is set to portray a TV reporter in the in-production DC Studios film.

Gunn’s Superman has David Corenswet feature in the lead role in the iconic superhero character’s most recent revival, which has also been written by DC head honcho Gunn. The film is set to arrive on the big screen next year on July 11th.

A documentary made by Ian Bonhote and Peter Ettedgui called Super/Man recently explored the life and career of Christopher Reeve. Will Reeve, as well as his older siblings Matthew and Alexandra, all appear in the non-fictional film.

From the actor’s journey to stardom to a horse-riding accident in 1995 that left his paralysed from the neck down, Super/Man was well-received at the Sundance Film Festival and was eventually sold for wider distribution to Warner Bros Discovery.

Speaking with Variety at Sundance, Will Reeve spoke of his father and the documentary that explores his life and career. “The majority of my memories of my dad involve him after the accident because I was not yet three years old when he was injured,” the journalist said.

He added: “So to see his entire life leading up until that time laid out so poetically and cinematically and authentically by our wonderful directors has been a real gift for me.”

In other Superman news, actor Matt Bomer recently claimed that he lost out on playing the Man of Steel because he is gay. “It looked like I was the director’s choice for the role,” the actor noted. “This is a very early iteration of Superman written by J.J. Abrams, called Superman: Flyby, I think is what it was called, and it never came to light.”

“That was a time in the industry when something like that could still really be weaponized against you,” Bomer added of the decision to reject him from the role because of his sexuality.
