SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a bank robbery last week on South Bend’s northwest side.

38-year-old David Hatmaker is charged with robbery, auto theft, possession of meth, and unlawful possession of a syringe.

The robbery was reported last Wednesday, July 3, at the Notre Dame Federal Credit Union in the 3400 block of Portage Avenue.

Shortly after the robbery, officers found Hatmaker outside a Walgreens near the credit union.

While investigating, police learned Hatmaker was the suspect in a vehicle theft at a South Bend car dealership earlier in the day. He was near the stolen vehicle when he was apprehended.

Officers also found a large amount of cash, suspected methamphetamine, and a syringe in Hatmaker’s possession.

Hatmaker is currently being held at the St. Joseph County Jail.
