In a move to support students from the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) in tertiary institutions, Pastor Princewill Ejekwe, the Chairman Caretaker Committee (CTC) of ONELGA, has announced the commencement of the process to pay bursaries to eligible students.

Pastor Ejekwe made this announcement during a press briefing, where he addressed various developmental issues in the area. He emphasized that the youth empowerment policy of the local government will be comprehensive, with a strong focus on student bursaries.

“We are commencing documentation of eligible beneficiaries for the exercise,” stated Pastor Ejekwe.

He highlighted that his appointment and subsequent swearing-in by the Governor had been widely accepted. He urged the community to support Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, acknowledging the significant projects, programs, and appointments the Governor has initiated across the state, from which ONELGA has greatly benefited.

The CTC Chairman also advised the youth to remain law-abiding, avoid violence, idleness, and other social vices, noting that meaningful development cannot occur in a chaotic environment.

In a similar vein, Hon. Evans Bipi, Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, has also approved bursary payments to students from his LGA, describing it as a “needful gesture.”

Governor Siminalayi Fubara had approved the payment of student bursaries for Rivers State students in late May 2024. However, the process has been delayed, with many attributing the delay to the leadership crisis in the state, reportedly caused by politicians loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike.

The ONELGA Chairman’s announcement was made in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ndu Ajie.
