LAGOS – Yusuf Sununu, the minister of state for education, has officially started the construction of seven state offices for the National Examinations Council (NECO).

During the launch event held in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa, the minister expressed that these initiatives would pave the way for a more promising future for Nigerian students. 

The additional state offices will be established in Abia, Jigawa, Lagos, Rivers, Sokoto, and Taraba.

Sununu praised the NECO registrar for upholding federal character by guaranteeing equitable distribution of the state offices throughout the six geopolitical zones.

He also mentioned that NECO, being a local examination body, is prepared to involve all regions of the nation.

The minister emphasized that education is fundamental for progress and eliminating poverty, guaranteeing NECO that the construction of the seven state offices will be expedited to create a favorable working environment for the examination body’s staff.

“Creating a suitable work environment is crucial for fostering creativity and improving job productivity,” he remarked.

He highlighted that NECO stands as a reputable examination body on par with global counterparts.

Previously, Dantani Wushishi, the NECO registrar, detailed that the new offices will act as a symbol of distinction in overseeing examinations in Nigeria.

“This initiative stems from the government’s strong focus on enhancing educational infrastructure, specifically through the allocation of seven capital projects in NECO’s budget for this year,” Wushishi remarked.

“It signifies the government’s unwavering commitment to equipping institutions like NECO with the essential support to carry out their responsibilities efficiently.”
