The party challenged the State Police Command and the Department of Security Services (DSS) to rise up to their duties and nip to the bud the rising political threats from supporters of the former governor.
Amaewhule had allegedly threatened that “they will come after Fubara if he does not stop insulting Wike.”
He spoke during the inauguration of an international market in Omagwa in Ikwere Local Council of the state.
He accused Fubara and his supporters of insulting Wike during events to celebrate his Supreme Court judgment.
Issuing further threat, Amaewhule said: “If you don’t stop, we will come after you, we are not afraid.
That Government House does not belong to you, it belongs to Rivers people.
“All of us fought for you to be there and Wike fought for you to be there. So, if you want to continue to insult Wike, be prepared, you will run.”
But speaking, yesterday in Port Harcourt, the State Publicity Secretary of PDP, Sydney Tambari Gbara, said such threat was an affront to the office of the state and a threat to the life of Fubara.
According to him, such an offence cumulatively amounts to a ‘treasonable offense ‘by law.
He expressed dismay that the police and the DSS have maintained calm and feigned ignorance of the viral video.
He said: “Unfortunately, since four days after this statement was made by Amaewhule and the video went viral, we have not heard that this individual has been invited by the police for questioning or the DSS.
“The Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu who won the best Commissioner of Police in Nigeria should act now to confirm the title that was bestowed on him.
“There have been several attacks on the ‘simplified movement’ and complaints have been made but no arrest has been made.”
The state PDP spokesperson further described the threats as an empty one, adding that the pro-Wike supporters are issuing threats out of frustrations.
He said: “They have used different tactics to unleash terror on the Governor but they didn’t succeed. So, that’s why they are adopting the threat strategy. Yet the governor has remained calm and focused, delivering quality projects backed with good programmes and policies to the people.
“Though it is an empty threat, it should not be overlooked. The security operatives must swing into action and call Amaewhule to order by arresting him to serve as a deterrent to others.”
Gbara alleged that the supporters of the Minister want to ferment and escalate troubles in the state with the aim of depriving the people of the good governance being delivered by Fubara’s administration.
He reminded the pro-Wike group that they chose to be peaceful does not mean they are weak.
“That we are peaceful does not mean we are weak. We have the capacity to ferment trouble, however, the Governor is a man of peace and we have to obey him,” he added.
He pleaded with supporters of the governor to maintain calm, not to be provoked by comments and threats by the other camp to enable peace to thrive and pave the way for the Governor to continue to deliver quality programmes and projects to the people.
