He mentioned, “Love Catalina, Jim Luttjohann and I would like to thank everyone who did attend Pride.” Ponce also highlighted the success of the event, stating, “It was a great event; year three, looking forward to year four, and we did get quite a few people from the mainland who came over to enjoy it.” He further added, “It was a good event and I look forward to more and it seems to be growing. We actually had more booths this year.” Council Recognizes LGBTQIA+ Pride Month
Earlier in the month, the council officially recognized June as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, further solidifying their commitment to inclusivity and diversity within the Avalon community. The Pride Walk was a symbolic representation of unity, with participants coming together for a group photo on the steps of the Catalina Island Casino. The event not only showcased support for the LGBTQ+ community but also attracted attendees from various parts of the mainland, indicating the growing popularity of the celebration. The success of this year's Pride event has set a promising precedent for future gatherings, with organizers already planning for an even bigger and more inclusive celebration in the coming years. The positive response and increasing participation demonstrate the unwavering spirit of unity and acceptance within the Avalon community.
