BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Bentonville's First Friday event is set to take off with "A Salute to Service" culminating in a flyover by WW2-era Mustang planes on July 5.

The First Friday event, presented by Walmart and hosted by Downtown Bentonville Inc. (DBI), is a monthly family-friendly event that welcomes as many as 10,000 people.

Downtown Bentonville Inc. communications director Aaron Nolan said it was fitting to host the special First Friday the day after Independence Day.

“We have a platform, we have an avenue to celebrate our veterans and remember those who give us the opportunity to celebrate America’s birthday,” Nolan said.

During First Friday, people will see and get the chance to interact with members of the US Armed Forces, military veterans, and local civil servants, along with several veteran-owned businesses.

Todd Garner, Chief Product Officer at Sam’s Club and Air Force Academy graduate, will be speaking at 6 p.m.

"I am looking forward to participating in Downtown Bentonville Inc.'s First Friday,” said Garner. “As a veteran and a proud resident of this community, I know that this event will be a meaningful tribute to the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve our country with honor and dedication."

In 2023, DBI Executive Director Dana Schalgenhaft said their goal with First Friday is to offer free low-cost events in the growing and bustling downtown.

"Every cloud has a silver lining," said Schalgenhaft. "Pairing together two of Bentonville’s most memorable summer events back-to-back will create an action-packed night of festivities for the entire community!”

Following First Friday, Bentonville's fireworks showcase will be held at Orchards Park. The display was originally planned for July 4 but was postponed due to weather.

First Friday will be held from 3 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Downtown Bentonville Square, and the Orchards Park firework show will start at 9:30 p.m.
