An Indian-origin professor at the University of Birmingham has been booked by the Imphal Police for allegedly inciting the ethnic tensions between Kukis and Meiteis through his social media messages and talk sessions, a report stated on Sunday. Uday S Reddy, a former teaching assistant at BITS Pilani, has been alleged to have links with Khalisatan elements, the report stated based on police sources.

A resident filed the First Information Report with police alleging that Reddy, a Computer Science professor at UK's University of Birmingham, tried to incite the communal tensions between the two violence-marred ethnic groups - Meiteis and Kukis.

"The accused person deliberately with malicious intention insulted the Meitei's religious beliefs and promoted enmity between the Meiteis and other communities on religious grounds," the FIR stated as quoted by NDTV.

Reddy has been accused of hosting online discussions on Manipur and giving instructions to people in Manipur on how to create problems for Indian security forces, the NDTV report stated.
