The Lagos State Government has appealed for calm following the severe flash flooding caused by the prolonged torrential rainfall across the state.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, made the plea in a statement yesterday, assuring residents that the floodwaters will recede once the rains subside and the Lagos lagoon water level decreases.

The Iyana-Oworo, Olopo Meji areas leading to the 3rd Mainland Bridge were completely flooded, causing heavy traffic that extended to Alapere. Motorists spent hours on the road coming through Alapere to the Third Mainland Bridge.

At Iyana-Oworo-Olopomeji area heading to the Third Mainland Bridge, there was heavy flood causing long traffic that also extended to Alapere.

A tree fell at Airport U-turn in Oshodi due to the downpour, but the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA), promptly cleared it to facilitate traffic flow and ensure public safety.
