In a groundbreaking move to streamline the UTME registration process, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the introduction of customised SIM cards for candidates participating in the 2025 UTME.

This initiative, aimed at tackling the recurring issues of SIM theft and loss, promises to revolutionise the registration experience.

According to JAMB’s Weekly Bulletin, these specially designed SIM cards will be launched next year in collaboration with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The SIM cards will incorporate advanced security features and will be accessible only to parents, ensuring a more secure and reliable registration process. Notably, these SIM cards will have a validity period of five years.

During a visit from the West Africa Civil Societies Forum (WACSOF), JAMB Registrar Prof. Is-haq Oloyede elaborated on the initiative.

He expressed confidence that the customised SIM cards would effectively address the challenges that candidates have faced during registration, particularly issues related to SIM card changes and the inability to access results due to lost SIMs.

Prof. Oloyede assured the visiting delegation of JAMB’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the UTME registration experience. He emphasised the Board’s dedication to utilising advanced technology to deliver efficient and user-friendly services across Nigeria.

Reflecting on the 2024 UTME, where many candidates faced registration difficulties and issues accessing their results due to SIM card problems, JAMB’s new measure aims to eliminate these obstacles.

The Board’s statement highlighted its strategic partnership with the NCC to provide these customised SIM cards as a permanent solution to these perennial challenges.
