JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man in his mid-30s crashed his vehicle Tuesday night on the Hart Expressway after he was shot during an altercation “on commercial property” just minutes before, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO’s Sergeant Dishman says at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers were called to the crash on the Hart Expressway near the exit ramp to University Boulevard South. Upon officers’ arrival, Dishman says the man was found suffering from a gunshot wound, as he was taken to a local hospital in non-life-threatening condition.

“The initial investigation revealed that an altercation occurred near the 10700 block of Beach Boulevard,” Dishman told First Coast News. “During the altercation, an unknown individual shot at the victim’s car multiple times.”

The man was shot once in the upper torso, according to JSO.

Dishman says detectives are now speaking with the man, canvassing the area for surveillance video and looking for potential witnesses; the sheriff’s office has already identified one witness.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
