The Leader of pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Reuben Fasoranti, yesterday, led a delegation of the group to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Jare Ajayi, confirmed this to newsmen.

Fasoranti, while lauding the President for his efforts at changing the narratives about the country, acknowledged his commitment to the progress and development of the country.

He also urged the President to consider the expeditious implementation of the demands of the organisation, including the restructuring of the country, and construction of major roads, especially in the South-West, among other demands.

“The entire leadership of Afenifere is happy to be here to meet with our son, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the first member of Afenifere to be elected the President of Nigeria. We are delighted with what you are doing for our country and we assure you of our continuing support.
“You are the leader of Nigeria now and the most important political figure in the Black World. We expect you, knowing your pedigree and the legacy you represent, to lead our country with courage, knowledge and integrity. We do not doubt that your tenure would mark a turning point in the history of Nigeria when our great country, under your able leadership, would be repositioned for greatness,” Fasoranti said.

The leaders urged the President to pay attention to certain issues, which included the restructuring of the federation, infrastructure in the South-West, security and employment.

They also urged the President to approve the upgrading of the Federal College of Agriculture, Kabba in Kogi State into a full-fledged federal university.

Tinubu, while responding to the address presented by Olu Falae on behalf of Fasoranti, said he was highly impressed by the visit as it made him emotional.

He reiterated his commitment to restructuring Nigeria in a manner that every citizen will experience good governance.
He said: “I have listened to your advocacy on restructuring and others. What you believe in is what I also believe in. Constitutional democracy is being reflected since we took over office.”

He, however, vowed that criminals who challenge Nigeria’s sovereignty would face the consequences, declaring his government’s commitment to combatting the menace of banditry and kidnapping in the country.

Meanwhile, the immediate past Secretary-General of the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE), Dr Kunle Olajide, yesterday, lauded the leaders of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation for visiting President Bola Tinubu.

Olajide said: “The visit was good. Anything that would bring unity, progress and development to the country is welcome.”
