Five-year-old girl narrowly escapes intense house fire in Melbourne's north after after car driven into garage and set ablaze
Emergency Services rushed to a house in Melbourne's north after a car drove into the garage and was reportedly set ablaze, forcing a man and his five-year-old daughter to flee their home.
Fire rescue crews responded to several calls to the Greenvale home about 3.30am on Friday, arriving to find the home engulfed in flames.
The response was quickly escalated, with over 30 firefighters arriving on the scene, but they were unable to enter the house and attack the fire internally due to the sheer intensity of the flames.
A man and his five-year-old daughter managed to escape the fire with only minor injuries.
Hoses were used to protect neighbouring homes as the flames continued to grow.
Plumes of thick black smoke engulfed the neighbourhood, prompting Fire Rescue Victoria to issue a Community Safety Advice warning.
“The fire was declared under control at 4.22am, 41 minutes after firefighters arrived on scene,” a statement from FRV read.
“The house has been extensively damaged in the blaze.
“Firefighters will remain on scene into daylight hours to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.”
The fire, which was deemed suspicious, will be investigated by Victoria Police.
