Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has approved the immediate payment of 500 Million Naira gratuities and 500 Million Naira for Pension for both the state and local government workers.

He gave the approval at the 70th birthday ceremony of Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo State Chapter, Mr Olusegun Abatan.

The governor noted that the approval would take effect from July, 2024.

Governor Makinde while acknowledging the unrelentless effort of the celebrant since 2019 for the welfare of pensioners said Mr Abatan would not compromise his integrity for personal gains.

In their goodwill messages, children of the celebrant described their father as a loving one despite being an activist.

Earlier, the celebrant, Mr Olusegun Abatan commended the state governor for prompt payment of pensions and gratuities since his election.

Mr Abatan appealed to the governor to grant the state labour unions’ pending requests for an improved standard of living and socio-economy.

Highlight of the event was the launching of a book titled,’ Olusegun Abatan: A Prisoner of Conscience’ and cultural display.
