Shortlisted new Super Eagles coach praises Peseiro’s AFCON tactics

thetalk.ng 2024/8/20

Jose Peseiro has been praised for his tactics that got the Super Eagles all the way to the final of the 2023 AFCON.

Peseiro organised the Eagles defence for the Super Eagles to play a compact game that took them to within a game of a fourth AFCON title.

Millions of fans knocked the team’s style of football, but former England coach Steve McClaren, who has been shortlisted for the Super Eagles vacant coaching post, said he was impressed with how Peseiro shut out the other team’s attack for Nigeria to reach the championship game against most expectations.

McClaren made this observation during interaction with officials in respect of the Super Eagles post.

“He said it was a pragmatic approach and it got Peseiro results except in the final game of the AFCON,” an official informed SCORENigeria

“The game is all about result, it will be great to achieve this with attractive football, but the key here is result.”

Peseiro did not extend his contract with the NFF after it ran out with the AFCON in February.
