A windscreen was left smashed following reports of a cyclist being hit by a car on a busy main road in Bolton on Wednesday (July 3).

Emergency services flooded St Helens Road near Daubhill on Wednesday evening following reports of the collision. An air ambulance was also called out to the scene as the main road was taped off.

There are unconfirmed reports that a cyclist had been hit by a vehicle. Police and paramedics attended the incident and blocked the road in both directions amid investigations.

The road was taped off between the A6145 Hulton Lane to Moorlands View as emergency crews worked at the scene. The cordon remained in place for a number of hours into the evening for crash investigation work to take place.

Pictures from the scene showed a heavy police presence in attendance, with a number of officers manning both ends of the cordon. A car windscreen was left smashed with a damaged pedal bike also seen on the ground at the roadside.

Further details about the nature of the incident and condition of those involved is yet to be confirmed. Greater Manchester Police have been approached for more information.
