But their journey home soon turned into a travel calamity as the flight was cancelled by easyJet.

Bosses at the budget airline axed their flight home as passengers were due to board.

The cancellation came amid air traffic control restrictions which the airline say is out of their control, reports The Mirror.

But Scots holidaymaker Carole Fuller, 70, was among those caught up in the chaos.

Her daughter Rosie blasted the airline and said she was worried about her mum who was running low on her medication.

She told the paper: "Chaos ensured, there was not an easyJet rep in sight and unfortunately no staff present at that time of day who spoke English, lots of passengers were visibly upset and panicking about how they were getting home.

"After a time they were told they were all being taken to a hotel, two large coaches full of passengers.

"The hotel was 20 minutes away. In the morning my mum met up with fellow travellers in the dining area and together they questioned reception about contacting the airport for further information- anything at all since they'd been left with no answer as to what was happening."

Desperate tourists were then forced to book onto flights on other easyJet planes and with different airlines just to get back to the UK.

Rosie booked her pensioner mum onto a flight to Glasgow just to get her home.

It comes amid a wave of cancellations at the budget airline sparked travel chaos for tourists.

People jetting off on their holidays learned the news at check in desks at Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Others have been left stuck in Malaga amid the situation.

It comes after a bride-to-be slammed the airline after the flight taking her to her dream wedding destination was axed just a few hours before it was due to take off.

Sarah Machete was all set to jet off to Naples to tie the knot but had to quickly arrange other flights when she got a text from easyJet saying her flight wasn't going ahead.

The Scottish Sun has approached easyJet for comment.
