Senior Manager Trade & Customs

We are seeking a Senior Manager to lead our Trade and Customs Practice. The Senior Manager will work closely with the Partners to manage client delivery teams and provide support on trade and customs engagements across all industry sectors. The Senior Manager will lead significant teams of staff on both internal and external client engagements and take charge of the Business unit.

  • Coordinating complete range of Customs engagements under the instructions and review of the Partner in charge, by liaising with other partners, managers, seniors associate and associates as well as professionals in relevant business lines.
  • Advise clients on customs regulations, import/export laws, and international trade agreements.
  • Ensure that clients comply with all relevant trade, customs, and tax regulations.
  • Keep abreast of changes in trade and customs laws and regulations and update clients accordingly.
  • Reviewing the draft deliverables of trade and customs managers and preparing the deliverables for the final partner review.
  • Collaboration both internally and externally
  • Lead business development activities aimed at growing the business portfolio and revenues from trade and customs related services.
  • Coaching and mentoring the Customs managers, senior associates, and associates on their day-to-day activities
  • Plan and organize internal training sessions, together with the leadership of the KPMG African Trade and Customs Practice team, and technical meetings as part of the skills development for the Customs team.
  • Interacting with the regulatory authorities to solve complex matters of the clients (e.g., representation during the post clearance audits, filing complaints, participating in meetings for presenting the situation of the clients, participating in meetings for discussing changes in legislation etc.).
  • Manage the relationship with clients and other stakeholders, under the direct supervision and review of the Partner in charge. 
  • High level management and maintenance of Risk and quality control on assignments, projects and firmwide.
  • Perform, supervise, or review the internal risk procedures regarding client onboarding, independence check, legal compliance obligations (e.g., AML, DAC6, GDPR etc.), contracting, billing and collection process, as part of portfolio management activity.
  • Work efficiently as a team member, sharing responsibilities, providing support, improving, maintaining, and updating communication with the entire management team.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university preferably in International trade, Logistics, Taxation, Finance, Accounting, Business Management, Law and Economics or other Business-related courses.
  • Post Graduate Diploma/ Masters in Customs or any professional qualification in trade and customs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Access, and experience performing internet research.
  • Minimum experience of 12 years in trade and customs related work, preferably in consultancy services/ Customs Authority and or Industry.
  • Minimum experience of 10 years in managing project assignment and teams.
  • Demonstrated experience of winning engagements in the market, with a focus on tax governance
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of the AFCFTA and WTO Agreement, protocols, and annextures.
  • Extensive depth of knowledge and experience in Tax laws and rules of the West African region.
  • Established relationship and remarks with Nigeria Custom service, Ministry of trade and multilateral development organizations.
