Erstwhile Golden Eaglets recruit Lukman Gilmore has enthused about the prospect of  helping FC Urartu Yerevan secure the  Armenian  Cup  in the forthcoming  2024 finale fixed for May 12.

Last season, FC  Urartu  achieved  the double by winning both the Armenian  League title and  Armenian Cup.

The 27-year-old Gilmore  who trained under coach Manu Garba in the assemblage of  the 2013 FIFA World Cup-winning  Golden Eaglets ,joined the FC Urartu  during the January Transfer Window from Latvian side FK  Liepaja.

He said he  would be most pleased  to  achieve success in his first season  with  the Armenian side.

“Personally it’s been up and down  since I came down here,”  the defensive midfielder with eyes for goals  told NationSport.

“ I have been struggling with some injuries  but  it has been great  with some of the games I had featured in.”

Gilmore  admitted that his and his teammates yet have a date with destiny in the Armenian Cup final against  Ararat Armenia  after disposing off  Shirak FC in the semi-finals, adding  a win  would compensate  for  his Georgian Cup loss with Samggurali.

“ This will be  second cup final since I moved to  Europe  and I actually played  in the  Georgian  Cup  final in 2021 which we lost,” he said.“ Having that in mind, I would love to win this Armenian Cup  with FC Urartu  and we are  going to do everything to win.”

Though Gilmore along with Burkinabe Dramane Salou are the only African players with FC Urartu, the Nigerian  said the camaraderie  within the team would galvanise them to glory come May 12.

“Our  team is made up of friendly people and as a matter of fact, Armenians are warm people  as such Salou and I  along with all foreigners in the team feel at home  and this unity of purpose  will certainly help us to achieve victory,” he added.
