Harry Kane and Phil Foden left out of Nani’s combined England/Portugal Euro 2024 XI

Manchester United legend Nani has named his Euro 2024 England-Portugal combined XI, and only two Three Lions stars make the cut.

The former Portuguese international was given a choice of an England and a Portugal player in each position on a head-to-head basis to form his ultimate combined XI.

But in the end, it is an XI which essentially looks like the Portugal team - with just a couple of England players thrown in!

None of Jordan Pickford, Kyle Walker, John Stones nor Kieran Trippier made it into his defensive line as Diogo Costa, Danilo, Ruben Dias and Joao Cancelo all seemed better options for Nani.

Kobbie Mainoo and Declan Rice were also ousted in favour of Joao Palhinha and Vitinha.

Meanwhile, Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden were quickly discarded to make way for Rafael Leao and Bernardo Silva.

However, Marc Guehi did make the cut with Nani choosing to take the Crystal Palace defender over 41-year-old Pepe.

And the Euro 2016 winner eventually conceded that Jude Bellingham would get in ahead of Bruno Fernandes - just about.

No place for Harry Kane though with Nani having absolutely no hesitation in opting for Cristiano Ronaldo to start up top instead.

Portugal take on pre-tournament favourites France in the second quarter-final on Friday from 8pm, live on talkSPORT.

Having defeated Slovenia in a dramatic game which went to penalties in the last 16, Portugal will now be hoping to overcome Les Bleus and star man Kylian Mbappe in Hamburg.

And Nani, who picked up over 100 caps for his country, explained to talkSPORT that he was feeling good about his country, although he knows the quality that France have.

Jamie O'Hara names his bizarre England starting XI for their Quarter-Final against Switzerland

"Yes, I am confident but at the same time, with a lot of respect for the French side," he admitted. "We know they have fantastic players, big names, players who are very experienced in these competitions. And we know they want to win as well.

"Until today they haven't shown anything, so they want to prove themselves as well. So we are in front of the best game in this competition so far.

"Both teams have a lot of talent, but they haven't proven anything yet. Everyone has a lot of expectations from the players. The fans are waiting for the best performance from our national team.

"I believe tonight is a great opportunity because players like to show up in a big game - and there is no better game than this one."

When asked to predict the score, Nani suggested that the game would end in a 2-1 win for Portugal.

Should they indeed triumph over France, they will then meet either Spain or Germany in the semi-final - a tie that will be fiendishly difficult either way.

When asked whether he thought Portugal were capable of defeating either of those teams, Nani's positive attitude did not falter.

"I think it's a big possibility," he said. "We'll have a lot of confidence. Motivation will be high. I think for the next stage, we'll be less stressed, there will be less pressure because tonight is so important."

But while Nani was feeling good about his own nation's Euro 2024 chances, he did not quite feel that way about England.

In fact, given his verdict on England's Euro 2024 campaign so far, it is perhaps not so surprising that so few of the Three Lions made it into his squad.

When asked what he had made of Gareth Southgate's side, Nani admitted he had not been blown away by what he had seen.

He told talkSPORT: "The bit I saw didn't impress me a lot to be honest because England always have a fantastic squad, a group of players with a lot of talent, but they cannot (perform) on the field, in the competitions. In the last few competitions, it's always been like that.

"They look like they're going to win the competition, they look like they're going to beat everyone but in the decision-moments they are so poor. Their game is not the one we expect.

"Lot of talent in the group, you have players like Bellingham who can always surprise and score goals and win the games for the team. Harry Kane can score goals. You have players in the squad with a lot of talent."
