President Joe Biden’s campaign has revealed an ambitious plan for July amidst mounting pressure for him to withdraw from the race following a contentious debate performance. Biden has faced heightened scrutiny over his verbal missteps during the debate, with recent polls showing 72% of Americans questioning his “mental and cognitive health” for the presidency. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) became the first sitting Democrat in Congress to publicly urge Biden to step down, adding to internal Democratic concerns and campaign staff anxieties.
Despite these challenges, Biden remains resolute about continuing his candidacy. He is set to sit down for a high-profile interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos, scheduled to air Friday evening.
The campaign’s latest announcement outlines an “aggressive travel schedule” for July, involving Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff visiting every battleground state. According to CNN reports, the plan emphasizes Biden’s engagement in spontaneous interactions, a hallmark of his campaign strategy.
Additionally, the campaign plans a $50 million “paid media blitz” aimed at maximizing exposure during key events such as the Republican National Convention, the 2024 Olympics in Paris, and the season premiere of The Bachelorette. These strategic investments are intended to reach diverse political audiences.
CNN’s Priscilla Alvarez detailed Biden’s upcoming itinerary, which includes a rally in Madison, Wisconsin, the pivotal Stephanopoulos interview, a campaign stop in Pennsylvania, participation in the NATO summit in Washington, D.C., and speeches at conferences for Black and Latino communities in Nevada in mid-July.
